1 Ways to become a Lawyer in Sri Lanka on Mon Jan 06, 2014 8:44 pm

There are several ways to become a lawyer in Sri Lanka.

1. Through the Law College of Sri Lanka  -

This may be the easiest way to become a lawyer in Sri Lanka with a least investment in-terms of money and time. First you need to pass the Law entrance examination in Sri Lanka via Sri Lankan Law college. Then you have to go through 03 years of academic course. After that you have to get the experience from 06 months training program. Finally you can take oath as an attorney at Law.

2. Through Colombo Law Faculty -

You need to get qualified for the Colombo Law faculty with an adequate Z-score at the G.C.E. A/L examination. Then you need to complete 04 academic years at the university and pass the final year examination at the Sri Lankan law college. Finally after going through 06 months training program you can take oath as an attorney at law.

3. Open University -

You can become a lawyer from the open university of Sri Lanka. But there are some drawbacks like you have to spend more than 04 years and make a higher investment to complete the law course at Sri Lankan open university. Not only that, again you have to complete final year at the Law college and 06 months training program in order to take oath as an Attorney at Law.

4. Through foreign Law College -

This is also not a good method for an average Sri Lankan ( middle class ) Sri Lankan student. You have to spend over Rs. 1mn and again have to take 01st, 02nd and final year Sri Lankan law college exams along with the 06 months training program to take oath as an attorney at law.

So it is clearly visible that be a lawyer through Sri Lankan Law college is the best way to become an Attorney at Law of Sri Lanka
